The First Congregation

Church of the Open Bible started in an empty storefront building on Washington Avenue. Pastor Fred Surls started the first services in April of the year 1929. Sometime later, the store had to be vacated, so in 1930 a lot was leased to the church on River Street. A church building was planted and dedicated November 11, 1930. In the year 1937 the church building was moved by horses and rebuilt on the present location, corner of Estes and College. The original church building is now the Youth Ministry part. In 1940-1941 the new church was constructed, connecting to the original church building.

We honor the legacy of the eighteen pastors who have faithfully served the church over the years. Their dedication has shaped our history and built a strong foundation for our community. While we cherish this past, we are also excited to look forward making our mark on history. Jesus said in Matthew 16:18 that the gates of hell would not overcome the church. We are a local church holding to that promise believing that the best is yet to come for all of God’s people!
